Jacob's Paragraphs:
Ipads are AMAZING. Ipads can help create the essential learning environment to learn. With ipads students can look up information on the internet and do research. They can also work on projects, type papers, make posters ,or write letters. Our goal in this project is to make the classroom more technologically advanced and better for learning. The health classroom is currently in a poor state of technology. The only technology in the room is an old TV and a computer provided by the teacher
We plan to improve the technology in the health room dramatically. We will add Ipads with iTunes u, which is a program to provide digital textbooks for classrooms. We will also add computers, a smart board. and the knowledge to use them. I think this could really improve the classroom and the way students learn.
The article I used stated that ipads are important to education can help improve the way students learn. Using ipads will make the lesson more interactive. Putting ipads in the will improve the students learning experience. I think adding ipads to the classroom will help people understand what is happening in the classroom.
Chris's Paragraphs:
A proper learning environment is essential to learn. And health class is one of the most important subjects to learn. It helps children understand their health and be concerned for their safety. However, without the proper technological equipment, that learning can become a challenge. As of now, the only main technology used for learning in our health room is the television and the teacher’s computer that the teacher provides. My group and I have a plan to make the room more advanced and technologically suited for learning.
I decided to research computers and laptops to assist learning in the health room. Students can use computers and laptops to find information and create documents. The computers that students use should be easy to use and fast, but not too pricey in case they break. I decided to go with Dell computers because they are fast and reliable computers for any kind of use. Macs are also very good computers, but Dells are just more reliable.
I saw an article in which laptops were given to almost every school in Uruguay. Grades greatly improved. The article stated that the laptops captured the kids attention more than normal teaching, making learning easier. The children with learning disabilities were helped the most by these new laptops. Imagine if we gave each student in health a laptop too. It would definitely raise every student’s grades in health.
Ella's Paragraphs:
For many years we have used slates, chalkboards, and whiteboards, but those days are now behind us as we're moving into an era of technology. So instead of the boards that make noise every time we write on them, we are starting to use Smart Boards. Smart Board is interactive whiteboard systems that have enhanced many kids learning in the past years. Many teachers have also noticed the enhancement of students learning through the Smart Board. “I’m really excited about using digital technology in my classes,” says Clementine Annabell, a teacher at Embassy’s Cambridge school. “We have SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards in all our classrooms and they really bring a lesson to life with music, video, photos, and the Internet... all available at the touch of a button.”
If that is so, why doesn't every classroom have a Smart Board? One of the few classrooms in our school of MMS that doesn't possess a Smart Board is the health room. Not only does this room not contain a Smart Board, it isn’t really technology advanced at all. This classroom only contains desks, counter tops, bookshelves, chairs, a TV, chalkboard, one vent and a filing cabinet. My group will add a smart board, laptops, and other technological items to help our learning. I think a heater for the winter and a fan for the summer might be nice and new desk arrangements because it is hard to move around in there. We might also add a good printer and better bookcases.
The 21st century we are always on the move, people are now using laptops instead of notebooks, we are reading on a kindle or nook book instead of soft covered books. And we are also using a Smart board instead of whiteboards now. However these new gadgets that we use do have their perks. Like Clementine Annabell said “they really bring a lesson to life with music, video, photos, and the Internet... all available at the touch of a button.” But for me as a student, learning with them and using them first hand, they in my opinion make learning more fun, interactive and informative. And I know some teachers will agree with me on this one!
Phillip's paragraphs:
My job was the arrangement of desks and students. Currently, the desks are arranged in pairs of twos and threes next to each other. The desks are in three columns. The desks all face the chalkboard and television. The teacher’s desk is behind all the other desks.
My new design is in two columns right next to each other. The desks will face each other so that the students will be able to work in groups, partners, and by themselves. This is also efficient for the teacher to move freely, check on student’s work, and allows the students to enter and leave with ease.
My article, “what is the right amount of group work in school” from the New York Times website, compared group work with the company Apple. It stated that “… the story of Apple’s origin speaks to the power of collaboration… But it’s also a story of solo spirit. If you look at how Mr. Wozniak got the work done — the sheer hard work of creating something from nothing — he did it alone.” This shows that people can get a lot of work by themselves, without distractions. But, people can also do well with other people since there’s more ideas, which can also cause more ideas. This is why my desk arrangement, two columns facing each other, is designed to work with both individual and group work, both with pros and cons, which makes it very efficient.
